"Until now, we've relied heavily on an analogue, paper-based system. It might seem completely outdated to use paper and maps, but that's how we've always done it. And while it's simple and has worked well enough, we could see that time was catching up with us," says Bjarke Brandt Helms, CEO and Forest Manager at SLS A/S

Three things you should know about SLS A/S

  1. They are a customer-owned, private forest management company that manages forests and nature for private forest owners.

  2. They were founded in 2006 and consist of 73 forest owners, primarily located in Jutland.

  3. They help their forest owners manage and maintain their forests on a daily basis, allowing them to spend their time enjoying their forests rather than managing them.

Creating a solution for all generations

SLS A/S needed a solution that could provide their forest owners with a clear overview of forest finances and a their forest, which the owners themselves could use and benefit from.

They recognised the need to embrace new digital approaches to future-proof the company – and prepare for a new generation of forest owners who had higher demands for digital access.

While going 100% digital might seem like an obvious choice, it's not always without challenges – especially for a company like SLS, whose current forest owners aren't all equally comfortable with digital solutions.

"Previously, we sent billing and financial insights via email once a month, but many of our forest owners found it difficult to understand. That's why we wanted a solution that our forest owners could benefit more from, giving them easier access to insights about activities and finances," explains Bjarke.

Three key improvements

Here’s the three most important improvements that Bjarke Brandt Helms emphasis.

1. A user-friendly solution that adds value

"Today, some of our forest owners use Forsler to get an overview of their finances, but many of them are already seeing the value in using it for other purposes. Several of our forest owners have family-owned forests, and they use it to share things like where they've found chanterelles or good spots for mushroom picking. Our hope is that even more of our forest owners will discover Forsler's potential."

2. From paper to digital

"It's simply easier to have everything digital – both for us and our forestry workers, who always have all the details in their pocket. They can easily check tasks and find the right location while out in the field. We no longer have to print maps at home but can get the full overview while in the forest."

3. Ready for the next generation

"A lot is going to change when the next generation of forest owners takes over. And we need to be ready for it. They have completely different expectations and expect to follow everything happening in their forest themselves – and it's important for us to be equipped to create value for the next generation while still meeting the needs of our current owners."

Results and feedback

"Forsler has been accommodating and solution-oriented, and they've been great at spotting opportunities where others saw limitations. From day one, they were attentive to our challenges – and ready to find a solution. We also spoke with others who recognised the challenges, but they just weren't prepared to come up with a solution. Forsler was. And that means we are now ready to step into a more digital era."
